Salads for your skin

It's time to put down that over boiled soggy broccoli that you've been putting next to some over cooked chicken breast for the third time this week. Trying to be mindful of what you eat can be tough and it can be exhausting thinking up new recipes. But it doesn't need to be.

Here are some options that are good for you, your skin and won't do wrong by your taste buds.

Shredded Cabbage Salad

Cabbage has been shown to be an excellent anti inflammatory.

The other ingredients are loaded with vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin A for that anti aging goodness.

1/2 red cabbage, shredded

1/4 white cabbage, shredded

1 carrot, grated

2-3 baby beets, diced

1/2 cup spinach leaves or rocket leaves

1/4 cup fresh spring onions, chopped

1/2 avocado, sliced

1/2 cup fennel, sliced

1/4 cup parsley or coriander, roughly chopped

2 tablespoons mixed raw seeds and nuts

1/2 pear (optional)

Dressing

Play around with the dressing until you find the combination you like. And go get some proper good quality olive oil, go on, do it.

1 teaspoon turmeric

Juice of 1/2 fresh lemon

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon tahini

1 teaspoon raw honey

2 tablespoon good olive oil

salt and ground pepper, to taste

Herby Quinoa Salad

This one has so many forms of good fats from the chia, avocado and olive oil. Along with vitamin B, C and K so it's great for immunity. With plenty of protein to keep you going from the quinoa. Plus all the those healthly chef's always talk about quinoa, so it must be good for you!

1 cup quinoa, cooked

1 red onion

125g cherry tomatoes

1 avocado

1 small bunch of mint, parsley and coriander, chopped

1 pomegranate, deseeded

50g black chia seeds

100 Feta

For 1 cup of uncooked quinoa, use 2 cups of water—this will make 3 cups of cooked quinoa. Refrigerate the left over for later. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then lower the heat to a simmer and pop the lid on.

Dressing

Juice of 2 limes or lemon

1/4 cup olive oil

Here you can add chilli and garlic if you wish, although with all the herbs you don't always need too.

Salt And freshly ground pepper to taste

Enjoy

Henna brows vs brow tint

What is this new trend that you hear about henna brow’s? Have you been curious about it? Seen it in our treatment menu but not sure if you should book that option over your usual, our ever so popular brow tinting? Well, henna brows will be perfect for you if you’re after a semi-permanent powder filled look, if your brows are sparse, aren’t as full as they used to be, suffering from alopecia, wanting something that will last longer than a few days to a week or maybe for the duration of your next 4-week holiday, which I know you’re all hanging out for!

Well this is how it works. So just like brow tint, henna comes in a variety of shades as well. It’s a safer and more natural alternative made from natural dye extracted from the hina plant or also known as the henna tree. Tint takes 3-5 minutes to develop and lasts anywhere between a few days to a week and a henna treatment can take up to 30 minutes. It can stain the skin for up to 2 weeks and brow hairs for up to 4 weeks before it starts to fade. Hence the price difference. So don’t be scared or don’t be shy, come and give our henna treatment a try!!!

Please remember that with both these brow treatments, it’s best to avoid any oily cleansers and exfoliant’s around the brows as it can strip the colour. With henna brows, we actually recommend avoiding getting them wet at all for best results and longevity!

A skin routine

Cleansing… Boring right? WRONG!

Why cleansing is the most important step in your skin care routine!

So.. you get to the end of the day and cleansing is the last thing you want to do, BUT proper cleansing is so important! If you're not nailing this first step then all the other steps (serum, eye cream, moisturiser & oils) are not able to work well and absorb deep into the skin where all those amazing ingredients are needed.

So… think of cleansing a little bit like washing your hair, you shampoo the first time to get remove the dirt and oil, but the first wash doesn't usually create much of a lather and give a deep cleanse so you do a second wash to get down to your scalp and get a good lather. Its exactly the same for your face, (minus the shampoo!) add a PH balanced cleanser (meaning you don't need a toner, BONUS!) This leaves your skin feeling fresh but also has hydrating ingredients so your skin isn't left feeling dry.

Our top seller at Heavenly Bliss is Gentle Anti Oxidant Cleanser by O Cosmedics it’s a must have to complement any skin type and is gentle enough to use as an eye make up remover Pretty much a non negotiable.

When cleansing try and picture you are buffing off dead skin cells with your finger tips and bringing blood up to the surface to stimulate collagen and elastin (the good stuff) this is exactly why we massage during a facial and the longer you can work your cleanser in (adding water as you go) the better. After at least 60 seconds, rinse off really well with tepid water (never hot)

For the second cleanse you want to focus on any congested areas. Cleanse until those rough/dry/congested areas feel smooth, rinse really well, gently pat dry and follow with your prescribed products

Using Mineral Pro SPF30 for AM and Potent Retinol Serum for PM mixed with you hydrator .If using a Retinol Serum, Mineral Pro SPF 30 is mandatory .

Combining vitamin A,B and C is beneficial for such a wide range of skin conditions such as Acne, Congestion, Pigmentation, Dehydration, Ageing, Redness, Rosacea and plenty more.

We are always here to answer any question you have in the regards to your skin! We love it and it’s our job and passion!

NOW.. back to cleansing!

So you ask “should I cleanse morning or night?” the answer is BOTH! They are both as important as each other.

Although you won't need to double cleanse in the morning, you still need to cleanse away all the toxins your body has excreted whilst you slept. The products you apply after cleansing have the best chance to absorb and help your make up stay on and even all day.

Night time cleansing ,to remove the days makeup, oil and pollution but it’s also to allow yourself a moment to be in the moment, close your eyes, breath in and imagine yourself in the salon wrapped up in a soft blanket having a facial massage and the days stresses are being cleansed away and down the drain, give yourself that moment because you deserve it.

Why LED is so popular?

Chances are if you have been into our salon you would of had or would have been offered an led treatment in conjunction with your facial.

What is LED?

It stands for light emitting diode. The science was created by NASA originally to grow plants in space, but eventually it was discovered it has the ability to speed up the time it takes to heal wounds, results were so successful it was invested in the beauty industry.

Light therapy works by using different spectrums of light wavelengths that can all penetrate down into the epidermis and dermis to cause change at the molecular level.

When the light energy is in the correct wavelength, the cells in the dermis will convert the light energy into adenosine triphosphate, which is the fuel that the cell uses to do its job.

Each spectrum has a different correlating colour and each of these can target specific concerns.

Most commonly used is red light. Penetrating all the way into the dermis stimulating collagen production and having an all round anti aging affect.

Studies have shown this to be a great mood booster. It can be used on the body post workout for increased muscle recovery and anti inflammatory effects.

Green light also gets into the dermis, affects the melanocytes helping pigmentation and hyper inflammatory pigmentation.

Blue light reaches the lower epidermis. It creates an oxygen rich environment killing bacteria. It can affect the sebaceous gland shrinking it and slowing sebum production.

Yellow can get into the dermis, it triggers lymphatic drainage so it can help with dark circles and boosts circulation.

Unlike tanning beds, LED doesn't have any of the negative side effects that come along with UV damage and is completely safe to use.

The treatment is non invasive and usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes to perform stand alone or it can be added on to your regular facial treatment.

There are several home devices on the market. At this time we don't have a particular brand to recommend as they don't yet have the power of in clinic machines to create a strong enough wavelength.

Keep in mind the machine's in salon are worth tens of thousands of dollars versus a $39 mask from the chemist, so there is no real comparison. In saying this there still could be a small benefit from the at home treatments and we'd love to hear any reviews you may have.

If you have a special event coming up it's recommended you get 2 - 3 x LED treatments a week for a few weeks prior. This will see your collagen production increase resulting in fine lines and wrinkles plumped out leaving you with a smooth and clear skin tone.

The low down on collagen

Collagen is listed as an ingredient in almost everything beauty and health related so what it actually is?

Collagen is one of the most important proteins in our bodies, It acts as a building block for your bones, skin, muscles and teeth. Pretty much all of you!

We are made of up to 90% type 1 collagen, this keeps your skin full, plumps and wrinkle free. It also keeps your bones and nails strong, and helps build and maintain healthy joints.

There are up to 28 kinds of collagen, people primarily need types 1 ,2 and 3 depending on where in the body it is needed.

At the beginning our bodies naturally create a lot of collagen from birth until about 25 you create plenty, but from this point unfortunately, our bodies slow production right down, and by fifty production has rapidly declined and those signs of aging are hard to ignore.

This process can occur even sooner in your skin if there are lifestyle factors such as drinking, smoking and sun exposure come into play.

Which is why we need to try and prevent this by adding bonus sources and include them in our daily routine and intake.

The best place to find collagen is in the connective tissue of animal's.

You can get type 1 from chicken, pork and beef but our bodies best absorb it when it comes from a marine source.

Most supplements include collagen peptides aka hydrolyzed collagen. Which is made of the same amino acids as collagen but it is already broken down so it is more easily absorbed by our bodies.

These supplements also often include vitamin C as naturally enhances collagen production.

There are even plant based vegan options on the market so there's no reason not to try adding a bit more collagen to your diet!

Sugar

Everything you eat has as affect on the overall body and skin. Sugar is one of the worst ingredients for you overall, it causes several of the main signs of aging as well as increasing your waistline.

There is a long list of negative side affects from breaking down collagen, the substance that makes your skin look plump and youthful.

Sugar can weaken the immune system and it's ability to fight bacteria which can lead to clogged pores and creates pimples.

It causes glycation which presents itself as vertical lines often above the lip. Sugar can also create more testosterone leading to enlarged pores and an oilier complexion.

The recommended daily intake of sugar is pretty at about 25 grams, but most adults consume over double this amount or even triple that.

When it's reduced from your diet you can see the benefits very quickly. In as little as just a few days you could notice less redness and irritation plus a reduction in a build up of excess fluid reducing puffiness especially around the eyes.

Most of us already try and eat less sugar but unfortunately it is in everything and alot of it we don't even realise!

While some naturally occurring sugars have their health benefits it's best to monitor how much you consume.

Foods like fruit, juices and smoothies are one of the worst things for hidden sugars.

Try and bulk out your morning smoothie by adding veg, fiber, nut butters, protein powders

Yogurts and ice cream. These foods often try and trick consumers into believing they're healthier then they are by saying things like fat free on the packaging. Usually these have much more sugar to make up for the missing fats.

Alcohols often contain more sugars then we realise and the alcohol itself can already lead to broken capillaries and dehydration.

Simple carbohydrates like white bread and pasta break down into glucose which leads to an insulin spike, making foods like these just as bad a lollies. Try opting for whole grains and brown rice.

Have a go at lowering your sugar intake and see if you can see a difference.

Soup For The Soul...And Skin

While it's cold outside there's nothing better than sitting down to a hot bowl of soup. And if you can put down the bread dripping in butter they can actually be super good for you skin.

Spiced Carrot Soup

Carrots are a well know source of vitamin A, and the accompanying spices all have powerful antioxidant benefits.

For those of you who turn their noses up at coriander remember it contains iron, magnesium and lowers blood sugar.

Olive oil to brown

1 red onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped

Thumb sized piece of ginger, grated

1 red chilli - optional

1kg carrots, trimmed and sliced

2 teaspoon coriander powder or a handful of fresh

1 teaspoon cumin powder

2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Approx 700ml vegetable or chicken stock

100ml coconut cream

Brown your onion, garlic, ginger and chilli in a large pot. Add roughly chopped carrots. Pour over enough stock to cover your vegetables and simmer until tender.

Blend with a hand mixer

Add your spice mix, as much or little as you want and slowly add coconut cream until you reach you desired texture and creamy-ness.

This is perfect for people following vegetarian, vegan and paleo diets.

Everyone has a go-to when they're feeling under the weather, try this Healing Chicken Soup with a heap of vegetables for well rounded goodness.

For bonus points use the chicken bones to create your own stock. But store brought will do fine.

Along with the obvious health benefits you've got antibacterial properties from the rosemary, and thyme has been used to treat coughs for centuries.

1 whole small chicken, cooked and shredded

4-6 litres stock

1 large leek, diced. Can alternate for onions

2-3 sticks of celery diced

2 large carrots

3 gloves of garlic, crushed

1 small bunch of leafy greens of choice (Kale, bok choy, spinach)

2-3 fresh thyme sprigs

2-3 sprigs rosemary

1 small bunch parsley

It's best to have everything chopped and ready to go for this one.

Lightly brown your veg in batches, add it all back into your largest pot along with shredded chicken and hard herbs

Add stock and bring to a gentle simmer for 30 minutes

Add soft herbs and leafy greens.

Cook for a further few minutes and serve.

This soup has never ending possibilities.

Make it as chunky as you want, just change up the added stock. Whatever spare vegetable or herbs you have sitting in your fridge, chuck them in. Almost nothing is off limits with this one.

If you need to include noodles try wholemeal or wholegrain option.

How long should your skincare products last?

Let's have a look at exactly how long your beauty items should last, what's in a pump and how long can they should last.

Here we are using O Cosmedic products as the main example and information from Inskin on how far each bottle should last .

Let's start with hydrators and creams most of which are 50g in weight.

When you use an O Cosmedics hydrator each pump will disperse 0.4 grams (this is usually enough for any cream across brands) of product so you'll be able to get 125 pumps out of the container. If you use a whole pump morning and night your cream should last you about 62 days.

When you use serums you require much less product, one pump is approximately 0.2 grams. This means if you're using a 30ml bottle of serum you will get 150 pumps. If you use 1 pump from two of your favourite serums twice a day your serums will last you about 75 days.

It is necessary that you use 1.25ml or ¼ of a tsp for just the face when applying SPF if you want to be fully protected. Double that if you're doing your neck as well.

When using Mineral Pro SPF 30 you will get 60 days of full face protection from just one bottle.

Our kitchen scales are not sensitive enough to gauge how much cleanser comes out in per pump so I'm going to have to do a bit of a guesstimation here of about .25ml per pump, most people use 2-3 pumps to cleanse their faces.

If you're doing that morning and night you should get about 60 days out of your cleanser.

We are using the G&M power exfoliant mask as our example for masks and scrubs for this breakdown. The mask contains 75g overall and one use should be around 1.5g or ½ a teaspoon meaning you should get 50 uses out of the bottle. If you use it 2-3 times a week your product should last you over 4 months!

For those of you playing along at home if you're really good and you have cleansed, used your exfoliating mask, added 2 pumps of serum before your favorite hydrator and finished with your Mineral Pro SPF 30 your cost total $3.86 per day .

Only $3.86 for glowing skin now and in the future, sounds good to us !

If you make them well, you can create a smoothie bursting with ingredients that are good for your body and skin!

Here are a few of my go to recipes, starting with this Super Hydrating Smoothie to get your glow on.

¾ cup coconut water

1 tablespoon lime juice or lemon

1 ripe avocado

1 cup frozen pineapple

1 1/2 cupfresh cucumber, diced

Add a few ice cubes to get the consistency you want, and garnish with some mint if you're feeling fancy

If you are planning on actually working out and not just thinking one smoothie will turn you into a health guru, try this Protein Smoothie

1/2 banana

1/2 cup chopped kale

1/2 cup blueberries fresh or frozen

1/2 cup plain low fat yogurt, lightly sweetened

1 scoop protein powder of choice

1 tablespoon flax seed meal or hemp meal

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

A splash of water or milk alternative

A few ice cubes to get the consistency you desire

The following is Dr Rhonda Patrick's recipe which is jam packed with tones of micronutrients, it is the Ultimate Micronutrient Smoothie!

Take note that the serving size is 6 cups and this amount should be shared between people or used over two days.

I'm not claiming this recipe tastes amazing, but it's drinkable and really really good for you.

8 large kale leaves

4-6 rainbow chard leaves with stems

3 cups of chopped spinach (or a large handful unchopped)

2 medium carrots

1 tomato

1 large avocado

1 banana

1 apple

Pregnancy! Such amazing news! When you attend your first GP appointment, you’re given goodie bag and in there’s an extensive list of what to do, what not to do, what to eat and what not to eat. Well I’m sorry to say that the list doesn’t stop there. The products you apply to your skin matters too. So here’s a list of top 11 ingredients to steer clear from.

RETINOIDS such as RETIN-A, RETINOL, and RETINYL PALMITATE – Found in anti-ageing skin-care and can be prescribed by a GP for acne treatment. A derivative from vitamin A. This ingredient may pose an increased risk of birth defects for developing babies.

BENZOYL PEROXIDE – Found in over-the-counter skincare products for acne treatment, this ingredient may be a risk to the foetus.

THIOGLYCOLIC ACID - Used in hair-removal creams and sometimes listed as acetyl mercaptan, mercaptoacetate, mercaptoacetic acid and thiovanic acid on the ingredients list. There’s not enough evidence to say how much of this ingredient is safe in a product but when Europe limits the ingredient to 5% in products but in other countries products can contain up to 15%, it’s clear to say I’d stick it in the ‘avoid’ list.

SALICYLIC ACID – Also known as Beta hydroxyl acid (BHA). It’s usually found in cleansers, exfoliators, and spot treatment products to encourage exfoliation and unblocking of pores. Research has shown that small doses can be safe as long as the product has less than 2%, salicylic acid poses no risk to the foetus but just as a precautionary, it’s advised to avoid the use of the ingredient throughout pregnancy.

HYDROQUNIONE - Found in brightening products to treat hyper pigmentation should be avoided as it’s molecular size and weight can easily penetrate deep into the skin and maybe harmful to the foetus.

PARABENS – Very commonly used to help prolong the shelf-life of products and can be found in so many different types of products from foundation to styling gels. Studies have shown that there’s been cases where this ingredient has been linked to breast cancer as well as affect the reproductive system.

PHTHALATES – Used to help stabilise the formula in beauty products. This ingredient has been linked to liver, kidney, lung and reproductive issues.

FORMALDEHYDE – Found in some nail polishes. This ingredient has been linked to cancer as well as some nervous system troubles such as chest pains, breathing difficulties, coughing and respiratory issues.

DIAZOLIDINYL UREA – You’ll find this ingredient in mascaras. Interesting find is that it’s been found to release formaldehyde.

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) – A foaming agent found in soaps, cleanses and washes. Pro-longed exposure to this chemical can cause side-effects to the liver, kidney and nervous system as our body is unable to breakdown this ingredient. I’d try an avoid products with high concentrations this ingredient even when I’m not pregnant.

BOTULINIM TOXIN AKA BOTOX – Since this ingredient works by being injected into the skin to paralyse muscle contraction around wrinkles, I definitely wouldn’t be taking my chances continuing these treatments until after pregnancy.

If you’re planning to get pregnant, please avoid using any products that contain these or cease using product once you find out that you’re expecting.

What to Avoid When Pregnant in the O Cosmedics Range

As a precaution, O Cosmedics recommends avoiding any products containing Salicylic Acid and Retinol during pregnancy and breast feeding. That includes:

	• Corrective Cleanser & Peel

	• Pure C + BHA

	• Potent Clearing Serum

	• Potent Retinol Serum

	• Retinol Concentrate

	• Retinoic Oil

	• EFA's Max Complex

ESSENTIAL OILS & PREGNANCY

The use of essential oils can be perfectly enjoyed throughout pregnancy when used in vapourisers but it’s when it gets topically applied to the skin that it can be harmful. Essential oils are plant extracts that are extremely potent and highly concentrated. The reason why it’s recommended to dilute the oil before applying onto your skin.

Acids in skin care

Most of us have heard of acids in skin care, or told to use AHA's and BHA's, but usually we're not too sure what we should actually be using, so let's look at these commonly used types, and where they go in the beauty world.

Lactic Acid

Probably one of our favourite acids, it's in the AHA (alpha-hydroxy-acids) family and is mild enough that most skins can comfortably tolerate it.

It gently dislodges old dead skin cells giving an exfoliating effect and speeding up cell renewal. It does this while maintaining the skin's natural moisture factor so it won't leave you dry or dehydrated.

It is derived from milk, but you don't need to channel your inner Cleopatra and fill a bath tub as it is readily available in plenty of products such as: Multi-Functional Peel

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic Acid comes from sugar cane and is the smallest member of the AHA (alpha-hydroxy-acids)family, this means it can easily penetrate further into the epidermis making it a bit more intensive.

Glycolic works its way down into the hair follicle to help remove any built up sebum and dead skin cells that could otherwise lead to blackheads and breakouts.

Often found in cleansers and salon peels as it also helps shed the top layer of dead skin that can help improve the appearance of spots, scars and wrinkles.

It can be found here: Power Exfoliant Mask

Hyaluronic Acid

Known as hyaluronan, is found in a tone of creams and serums and is already pretty well known.

Much like collagen, Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found in your skin and just like collagen you stop producing as much as you age.

HA is a powerful humectant, it's job is to keep your cells nice and plump and hydrated. It does this with its ability to hold a thousand times its weight in water and retain it.

When applied topically it gives you a dewy youthful appearance, firming the skin and smoothing the appearance of fine lines so it's often found in anti aging products.

It plays well with most other ingredients, working along well with retinols and vitamins, pairing it with vitamin c can increase penetration.

It can be found here: 3D Hyaluronic Serum

Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid or as it's more commonly known, Vitamin C.

In a lot of the products we work with you'll see it listed as L-Ascorbic Acid.

The chemically active part of the vitamin, made with just the left side of a molecule to help with penetration into the skin and to keep the product more stable.

The acid by itself is very unstable and in other products one the container is opened it will lose its potency.

It is a super powerful antioxidant, neutralising free radical damage. It is probably best known for it's lightening and brightening affect on the skin, often used in products for pigmentation or sun damage.

Fun fact, the word Ascorbus means no scurvy, from the times where Vitamin C rich foods were used to fight it off.

You can find L-Ascorbic Acid in these products: C + BHA Powder

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic is a BHA (beta-hydroxy-acids) is anti fungal and it is oil soluble, so they dissolve in oil and can penetrate deeper into oily pores, making it great for a breakout prone skin.

It was initially used for the treatment of warts as it was very effective at peeling off the unwanted blemish. Over time it was found to be useful in the beauty industry as it can soften discoloration and improve skin tone over time and can also be effective for treating rosacea.

It comes from the bark of the white willow tree and its related to aspirin, so it is advised that pregnant or breastfeeding women halt use of products containing it. Find it here: Corrective Cleanser & Peel

And finally did you hear the one about the angry fatty acid? He was lipid!

Top beauty myths

There are many misconceptions out there about the beauty world, here are the top few you may of heard of.

Cold Water Closes Your Pores/Hot Water Opens Pores

Pores do not open and close, temperature won't have any affect on their size.

Pores can become enlarged if they are left clogged over time. They often appear larger where there is more oil flow e.g. forehead and nose.

Prolonged sun exposure can permanently dilate pores, over time the collagen and elastin supporting the area breaks down, and they start to sag.

You can diminish their appearance using retinols and acids.

Your Skin Needs To Breathe

We're not sure where this myth started but its a compete misconception that your skin needs to breathe, it doesn't breathe.

You can use your skincare products or make up every day if you wish. As long as you use non-comedogenic products and remove make up correctly, it won't have any negative implications on your skin

Nail Polish Stops Your Nails From Breathing.

Same as above this one simply isn't true. Your nails are already dead cells. If a nail plate was breathing. Nails don’t require oxygen, their nutrition goes through capillaries under the cuticle.

You nail may become damaged from excessive filing or discolored from frequent polish.

Oil Causes Breakouts

A lot of people with acne prone skin are told that oil can cause breakouts.

This couldn't be further from the truth, keeping your skin correctly hydrated can diminish acne, there is no need to opt for an oil free lotion to help fight breakouts.

Often this includes being told to avoid oil in your diet as well, which is also incorrect.

You Should Exfoliate Every Day

Using an exfoliant every day may feel good now, but chances are you're causing more harm than good.

You can strip your skins natural oils leaving you dry and dehydrated. Over a long period of time this can cause your skin to become inflammed and thin.

A few times a week is plenty.

Which beauty myths do you want to hear about?

Ingredients to avoid

When you read the back of a bottle it can be like reading a different language. All the scientific names for ingredients can be very confusing. And while most are harmless, there can be some that can be pretty toxic, all while sounding very similar to the ones you don't need to worry about.

As you may have guessed these ingredients have been linked to skin irritation and rashes, but what many don't realise is they can cause more serious health problems from hormonal disruptions, allergic reactions and even cancers.

Products you apply topically to the skin can be absorbed and have been found in the bloodstream after continued use.

Aluminum

Most commonly known for being in deodorant, Aluminum can also be found in shampoos and cosmetics.

It is a toxic metal that accumulates in the body. Studies have shown it to have an oestrogen-like affects in our systems, disrupting the healthy functioning of the endocrine system. It has even been linked to neuro toxicity over time.

Mineral Oil

Often found in creams and lotions, mineral oil is a byproduct of petroleum. In some forms it is used in car engines and machinery, there are concerns the product used in beauty products may not be completely free from contaminates.

It can leave a film across the skin preventing other ingredients from getting in or out, sometimes resulting in acne

Dmdm Hydantoin & Urea

Both these preservatives release a small amounts of formaldehyde over time, a known carcinogen. Which has been linked to skin allergies, headaches, chest pain and insomnia, to name a few.

Usually found in skincare products, cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners, and detergents.

While it does not accumulate in the body, prolonged use could severely impact your health.

Phthalates

Phthalates group of chemicals used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastics in cosmetics. This helps products stick to our skin.

Phthalates can be extremely dangerous to children, but it’s best to avoid them all together as they can be serious endocrine disruptors and even cause birth defects.

You can search your own ingredients at the link below to make a more conscious choice of what to use:

Skin inflammation

Most of us will experience some form of skin inflammation in our life times if we aren't already experiencing it right now.

It can present itself in many forms which can be hard to pinpoint and treat

It can show up as a rash, acne, dermatitis, psoriasis, infection or just about any time your skin starts to look a bit red and irritated.

There can be an array of other side symptoms when you're suffering from inflammation such as itching, stinging, dryness, raised bumps or heat coming from the area.

The inflammation starts deep within the body as a response to a trigger setting off an immune response to start healing trauma within the body.

There are many different cells within the immune system, when triggered they can release substances that widen the blood vessels and they become leaky, quickly moving to the affected area. This is why we see the redness and heat.

There are two kinds of inflammation, acute and chronic. Acute tends to only last a small amount of time no longer than 6 weeks, whereas chronic can continue beyond this and can sometimes be a life long struggle such as eczema or rosacea.

All these can be triggered by diet, medication, environment factors, allergic reaction, topical products and unfortunately genetics.

But luckily no matter where you sit on the inflammation it can be treated and managed.

How can you treat inflammation?

Don't pick, itch or scratch the affected area.

Avoid sudden temperature change, if you can have luke warm showers, using mild, soap free cleansers.

No harsh abrasive scrubs or anything with any harsh fragrance or perfume.

Keep the area well hydrated using calming products.

Sometimes if severe, antibiotics are needed to treat the condition or a steroid based cream.

Use products that help build up your skin immunity and barrier function to avoid future breakouts

Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to lock in hydration. niacinamide, green tea and peptides to strengthen and rebuild the skins barrier.

Avoid foods such as sugar, alcohol, bad fats and processed food.

Eat more healthy foods like leafy greens and complex carbohydrates.

Why is my skin struggling in isolation ?

During these past months a lot of us have had struggles with our skin. From dryness to breakouts isolation doesn't seem to be treating our skin too well, but what could be causing this?

Change in diet, it's very likely that you have been having a few too many naughty snacks since we've been in isolation at home. Everyone has turned into a baker since we've been inside . Too many sugars and carbohydrates along with not drinking enough water can lead to inflammation and dehydration.

Increased alcohol consumption, it's been on the news that our alcohol purchases have more than doubled since entering isolation. Alcohol deeply dehydrates the skin which ages the skin in general.

Alcohol also creates a histamine reaction causing red inflamed skin.

Disrupted sleep and stress have been linked to aggravating many conditions such as acne, dermatitis and rosacea.

Heating and cooling is drying for the skin.

Heading into the cooler /warmer month's and being inside/outside with the heater/cooler on, sitting in an overly dry environment which is in turn drying our skin. If you're noticing this I'd recommend a humidifier.

A lot of people have stopped wearing a SPF because they are not going outside, but if you're sitting next to a window for any amount of time you are still getting sun damage. Keep using an SPF in your morning skinroutine.

Also get outside, exercise reduction can compromise the skin’s microbiome and stress response leaving you with an unhealthy skin.

How can we fix this?

Be a little bit more conscious of eating a healthy diet and cutting out the bad stuff. Get outside and go for a walk. Over haul your skin care routine.

Start doing chemical exfoliation 2 - 3 times a week to really be sure you're getting rid of any dead skin cells.

Apply a face mask twice a week, most have hydrating ingredients to add more moisture back to into your skin.

And be sure to cleanse and treat at least once, but preferably twice a day if you want to achieve glowy perfect skin.

Common types of hyperpigmentation

Do you ever look in the mirror and think to yourself, “Hrmm, is that a new spot or patch or has it always been there?” I know I do. These spots or patches fall into the hyperpigmentation category and is caused by an increase in melanin. Melanin being the pigment that gives our hair, skin and eyes their colour. There are a few different factors that cause hyperpigmentation but it seems our sun is the number 1 culprit. Let’s take a look at a breakdown of the common types to help your understanding.

Freckles: It’s the most common type of pigmentation which starts to appear after repeated sun exposure and can be the first visible sign of sun damage. Your genetics can also play part in whether you are more prone to freckles appearing and is more common in those with fairer skin colour. It appears to be more prominent in the warmer and sunnier months and can fade in the colder moths.

Solar Lentigines: Liver spots, sun spots or age spots caused by exposure to the sun. They appear to be wart-like growths that are light brown to black in colour. It can appear anywhere on body and are usually benign but should be monitored as they have the potential to turn into skin cancer or melanoma.

Melasma: The same as Chloasma but the term chloasma is referred to when this condition happens in pregnant women, often called the ‘pregnancy mask’. Triggered by hormonal changes, the condition affects a lot deeper into the skins dermis and is more common in women than men. They appear as large tan or brown patches on the face without a distinct border. Worsens with sun exposure, certain medications, stress and pregnancy.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: Appears after physical trauma to the skin. Often the result of acne scars, burns, friction or clinical treatments like chemical peels, laser, IPL. It can improve over time with appropriate skincare and treatments.

Treatment options for hyperpigmentation include chemical peels, laser/IPL and Skin needling. Laser and light treatments can reduce and sometimes cure hyperpigmentation but a disciplined home care regime using high quality active products recommended by your skin specialist will go hand in hand with a facial treatment plan will give the best, long lasting results. And of course we can’t forget the most important product, an SPF 30-50+ after your moisturiser every morning!

Where and when do I use skincare products.

When and where is this product used?

Pre Cleanser/Oil Cleanser: This should be the first step of your cleansing routine. Often an oil based product to dissolve make up and spf. This can be skipped if you don't have make up on.

Eye Make Up Remover: If you pre cleanser hasn't taken most of your make up off or it's not suitable for the eye area use this with a cotton pad to remove tough eye make up.

Cleanser: Gel, foaming, milk, water, whatever kind of cleanser it is you should be using it as a second cleanse to thoroughly clean the skin. If you're still seeing make up come off, repeat this step.

Toner/Micellar Gel: This should either be used on a cotton pad or patted on to the skin. But they should not be used to remove left over make up. If you get to this step and you're still seeing make up on the cotton round then you're not cleansing properly.

Exfoliants: Chemical or Physical. When using a granular scrub apply to a clean skin and massage it in small circular motions for 3-5 minutes. Chemical can be used in the same way or applied like mask depending on the instruction. You can use these 1-3 times a week

Serums/treatment: serums or treatments go on before your moisturiser. They are usually full of lots of active ingredients that need to be applied before a heavier product otherwise they won't penetrate. You should apply thinnest to thickest. If you are using a retinol serum only use this at night time only.

Moisturiser/Oils: Apply these last in your routine. Let the above steps completely absorb and then press it into your to your skin. It's the best way of locking in all the other products you've applied and increase hydration.

Eye Cream: These creams are made specifically for the delicate eye area. Gently pat a small amount all around the eye all the way up to the brow bone.

Masks: A mask can be used 1-2 times a week. It's best to use them after your skin is completely clean to further increase their benefits. These slot in after your serum and before a moisturise.

SPF: Every morning this should be the final step over the top of everything. Press it into the skin until you can't see it anymore. Be very generous with this part to ensure protection.

Don't forget to treat your neck and decolletage when performing your daily routine, these areas age too!

Why you need to cleanse your eyelash extensions!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to regularly cleanse your eyelash extensions. Some say they’re scared that it might interfere with the longevity, some say they don’t have time and some just can’t be bothered! Will I change your mind after you read this?

Naturally, your skin secretes oil and if you naturally have oily skin, then it’s even more important that you do not skip this step! Oil is no friend of eyelash extensions as it interferes with the bond of the glue which means your extensions will fall out sooner. This should not be your biggest worry though. Allowing oils, dust, dead skin and makeup to be trapped and build up on your lashes can clog your follicles and lead to nasty eye infections. Not sure if you all know this but we have harmless microscopic parasites called demodex folliculitis which live happily on our lashes. However poor hygiene will result in these lash-mites multiplying as they feed on oils and dead skin cells causing both extensions and natural lashes to fall out, increase the risk of sensitivity and allergic reactions.

So please follow all after-care advice and instructions given by your lash technician as we’d love you to keep getting your regular refills.

If you’re unsure of how to cleanse your lashes, I’ve provided a step-by-step guide using an oil-free foaming lash cleanser every 2-3 days.

Step 1: Untangle your lashes by brushing them.

Step 2: Pump some cleanser onto your brush and cleanse your lash line as this is where most of the build-up will be.

Step 3: Rinse away cleanser with some warm water.

Step 4: Lightly pat dry with clean face towel. Please avoid any rubbing.

Step 5: Finish off by brushing them with your clean mascara wand.

The importance of cleaning your makeup brushes

We use our makeup brushes daily at home and we can definitely say that we don’t cleanse them as often as we use them. I like to tell my clients to clean them on the 1st day of every month but that’s seriously not good enough. Brush hairs and sponges are porous which easily hold onto oils, debris and bacteria resulting in breakouts. Dirty brushes can cause your application to be spotty and hard to blend. They need to be cleaned more frequently!

Foundation and concealer brushes should be washed weekly when using them daily to prevent product build-up. All other brushes which are used with powders should be cleansed once a fortnight. The cleaner your brushes are, the better the application will be. Not only will this be better and cleaner for your skin but it can help prolong the life of the bristles. You spend good money on makeup brushes so why not look after them too?

What should you use to cleanse them you ask? Just some warm water and gentle soap or if you prefer, there are also cleansers specifically made for cleaning brushes. How about your facial cleanser? I love this one. I see it like this, if it does such an amazing and thorough job for my face, it’s going to do the same for my brushes right?!

Now, how do I correctly do this? Well, I’ll explain this in a step by step guide.

Step 1 – Wet the brush with warm water.

Step 2 – Place a drop of your desired cleanser into the palm of your clean hand.

Step 3 – Gently massage the brush into your palm then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Step 4 – Get some paper towel or a clean towel and squeeze out the excess moisture.

Step 5 – Re-shape and fluff out the brush to its original shape.

Step 6 – Leave your brush/brushes to dry off the edge of a bench or counter which will allow it to dry to its original shape.

TIP: Try and keep the base of the brush where it connects to the base of the handle away from soap and water as this can cause the glue to disintegrate and bristles may come loose and shed.

I need to share with you guys a little weekly ritual I've just started and I'm wondering why I've waited so long to do this???

Firstly go out and by yourself some magnesium bath salts, I'm obsessed with the 'Relax' bath salts by Soap Bar you can purchase here at https://www.facebook.com/pg/heavenlyblissbeauty/shop/?ref=page_internal&search_text=Bath+salts

Infused with lavender the bath salts induce a deep relaxation for the body, mind and soul.

Whether you're homeschooling your children like me or you're an essential worker, please put aside 20-30 minutes of 'me-time' while the kids are doing their reading, after they're in bed or before you go to bed. Run yourself a warm bath and pour in 2 scoops of bath salts. Immerse your whole body into the bath and with no effort at all your body is absorbing all the goodness and benefits magnesium has to provide. It's going refresh, re-energise and rejuvenate tired limbs relieving muscle tension, pain and inflammation in joints. I don't know about you but with all extra-curricular activities being postponed during this lockdown, I've been trying to keep the kids active by being active with them.

Trust me, your body will thank you!!!

In the midst of this pandemic, self-care and self-love is so important to reduce stress, increase energy levels which helps with productivity! This is why when I wake up, first skincare then make-up every morning .I make sure I remove my make-up and do my cleansing routine every night to remove any dirt, grime or toxins that I've exposed my skin too.

All this talk about jade rollers and it's benefits convinced me to invest in some and seriously, who knew how obsessed I'd become with these. On one end is a large rose quartz roller for the bigger areas like forehead, cheeks and neck and the other end is a smaller jade roller ideal for the eye area and temples. We all know that rose quartz is the 'stone of the heart'. This stone represents universal love, promotes feelings of friendship, deep inner healing and peace while the jade stone represents health, wealth, longevity and prosperity. But when rolling them on your skin you can expect these benefits:

- smoother appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

- detoxifies

- lymph drainage

- relaxes the nervous system

- boost in collagen production

- stimulates collagen

- improve product penetration

I've been using these rollers AM and PM after I apply my serum for 3-5 minutes. It enhances it's penetration due to increased blood flow. Then I finish off with my moisturiser and SPF in the mornings.

Tip: Soak in warm water for increased penetration and place in the freezer to help reduce dark under eye circles and improve puffiness.

Right now more than ever, we need to promote self-care and self-love!

Vitamin A, Retinol, Retin-A, Retinyl Palmitate there are plenty of names for it. I'm sure you've all seen it in some form as an ingredient in anti aging skincare. What is it and what does it actually do?

Vitamin A, Retinol, Retin-A, Retinyl Palmitate there are plenty of names for it.I'm sure you've all seen it in some form as an ingredient in anti aging skincare. What is it and what does it actually do?

It has been considered a cure-all ingredient for an array of skin conditions for decades, it also has many scientific studies to show it's abilities.

These work by penetrating into the epidermis binding with the retinoic acid receptors in the DNA of skin cells, which helps cells to turn over and die rapidly, making way for new cell growth underneath and preventing the breakdown of collagen in the skin. This means smooth radiant skin along with prevention and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Who doesn't want that?

Your skin will constantly slough off these dead skin cells diminishing brown spots and uneven skin tone .Also helping your skin protect itself against pigmentation.

Retinol is great for acne, keeping pores unclogged allowing for better penetration of other products and preventing future breakouts.

It offers amazing wound healing properties and it is also used to treat acne scarring.

Retinol assists your skin creating more collagen and elastin, which is essential when our bodies naturally slow production of collagen from somewhere around the of age of 25.

Yes you read that correctly, 25! Production slows about 1-2% each year and does not replenish itself.

Adding retinol to your skincare routine is essential if you want to get a head start fighting against premature aging.

Most products on the market can only be applied at night time. Retinol is photo sensitive and can have reactions when exposed to the sun.(sunscreen must be worn)

It can cause some mild irritation as your skin is getting use to the product, but this is perfectly normal. We recommend you start using it every third night, working your way up to second and eventually every single night, taking as long as you need so you feel comfortable.

Most come in a serum form to be applied to clean dry skin under or mixed in to your hydrator.

A sunscreen during the day is mandortory when using Vitamin A at night.

Retinoic Oil:

Perfect for a dry/sensitive skin. This retinol has an advanced delivery system, stopping any of the irritation. Can be used on it's own.

Potent Retinol Serum 0.5%:

This serum needs to be mixed into a hydrator or another serum. It's a powerful concentration of 100% pure bioactive Retinol with superior stability and potency.

Retinol Concentrate 1%:

This concentrate is incredibly active as it uses the highest allowable concentration of Retinol before a prescription. This serum also needs to be mixed into a hydrator.

The colder weather has definitely approached us and we may not be going outside as often but that doesn't mean we get to slack off on our SPF application!

Did you know that UV rays can still penetrate and damage your skin through your car and home glass windows?

I recommend my favourite physical/mineral sunscreen. Mineral Pro SPF30+ by O Cosmedics. It's the most hydrating, lightweight, fast absorbing sunscreen I've ever come across and it comes in natural and tinted (I love the tinted). Dare I say that it even makes a great make-up primer. Oh, and did I mention the yummy vanilla scent? Packed with anti oxidants to fight against ageing and containing 20% of Zinc oxide, it will ensure that it gives you broad spectrum protection.

Did you know that Zinc is also well known for it's healing and anti inflammatory properties so from acne to SPF, it does not clog the skin making it great use for:

Acne skin

Sensitive skin

Nappy rashes

Overnight spot treatment to heal and reduce redness.

Say no more, look no further. This is your answer to protecting your skin from our harmful UV rays.

Tip: After applying a thin layer to my Face, neck and décolletage, I squeeze a a little bit more out and mix it with my O Cosmedics 1Skin foundation for a lighter everyday application.

A little backstory about my skin. Throughout my whole teenage life I struggled with a super oily t-zone, enlarged blocked pores, hormonal breakouts and acne scars. I don't even want to start on what I was using to treat them. I'll give you a clue P** Act*v was just one them.

Anyhow, I've moved on from that and in my 20's I discovered my skin was starting to be quite sensitive, just on my cheeks, I think I did more bad than good with what I used, and I noticed I was very prone to pigmentation. I needed to invest in good skincare, even better, if I could find a product that could improve all my skin concerns then I'm winning.

That's when I started hearing about Niacinamide. So I did a bit more research and found out the amazing benefits. Niacinamide helps and improves skin immunity, acne, evens out skin tone, lightens pigmentation and scarring. I needed this now!!!

I couldn't have gone wrong with my choice. I wanted a product I could trust, one that's Australian made and owned, free-from animal cruelty and free from harmful chemicals and petro-chemicals.

O-Cosmedics caught my attention with their O-biotics B3 Plus serum. I use it daily! From day 1 of using it I noticed a difference. It's improved my oil-control, minimised my pores, has evened out my skin-tone, brightened my pigmentation, scarring and improved hydration within my skin. Oh yes, it also boosts collagen! ANTI-AGING BENEFITS as well! I could seriously go on and on about this product.

Honestly, this is a product for everybody.

You won't regret getting your skin hooked on this one. Make sure you follow with a good moisturiser and SPF. I recommend the O Cosmedics Mineral Pro SPF30+ (I use the tinted one).

Get on board beauties!

As many of you know radiant skin also needs to come from what we eat as well as having a great skincare routine at home. What you eat hugely impacts that dewy glow everyone wants. Here's a list of some of the top foods to make you luminous from the inside out.

Kale & Leafy Greens

Often considered superfoods, kale and other leafy greens contain vitamins A, C and K. Dark greens contain folate, which is vital for DNA repair. Beta carotene, a powerful antioxidant that renews and repairs the skin.

Blueberries

They are full of antioxidants fighting against free radical damage. They also contain vitamins A, C, E, and K along with magnesium and potassium. Blueberries are great for acne as they balance hormones and have anti inflammatory factors.

Avocado

Not that we needed another reason to have smashed avocado for brunch, but here's a few:

Avocados are super high in good fats omega 3 and 6, making them incredibly hydrating for the skin. Which is why people not only eat them but use them for diy homecare.

Avocado also contains a good amount of your daily B complex needs, which helps combat dark spots.

Nuts

Most nuts contain high amounts of healthy fats along with other protein and minerals. Nuts such as almonds are full of magnesium and vitamin E to help repair cell damage. They also have an anti inflammatory effect and even lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Salmon & Other Fatty Fish

Everyone knows fish is full of the omega's. Without these essential fatty acids, your skin struggles to absorb any other hydration you would normally get from water intake or topical products. Recommendations are you consume at minimum 1000mg daily. Benefits on the skin have been seen when taken in higher doses.

Can't be bothered eating fish daily? Try a supplement in capsule form. O Cosmedics EFA'S MAX COMPLEX - High strength fish oil 1000mg, 100 caps $40

https://www.heavenlyblissbeauty.com.au/products/category/skin-correctors

This list could go on and on but I'll leave it with these few. And lastly, which food is the worst for the skin? Sugar! Avoid it, throw it away. There are lots of problems it creates in the body and skin. Eating a lot can cause a collagen breakdown known as glycation, where your skin begins to look creased and wrinkly. That should be reason enough to cut it out, or at least to try and cut down.

*Disclaimer* We are not medical professionals, if you are thinking about changing your diet, please consult your doctor.

The importance of sunscreen

Do you apply a SPF every day? If you answered yes, well done! But unfortunately most people answer no, and the rest are probably lying about frequency, and that's something that has to change.

Sunscreen is a vital part of your skincare routine all year round. Application during the colder months is just as important as in the summer, as 80% of the sun's rays can pass through clouds.

The sun emits UVA and UVB, both these rays are very damaging to the skin. Penetrating into the epidermis where it can cause cells to mutate. This leads to a variety of problems from premature ageing, collagen breakdown, melanomas and skin cancers.

There are two kinds of sunscreen on the market. Physical and chemical. Physical uses minerals that reflect the light off the skin. Chemical absorbs the light and dissipates it. Chemical sunscreens have been linked to skin irritation and some ingredients have been shown to disrupt hormones.

Physical sunscreens are the safest option for the skin and the environment. All of them will contain some amount of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Zinc has a lot of benefits beyond sun protection. It acts as an antioxidant protecting your skin from free radicals. It has antibacterial properties helping to reduce breakouts and inflammation. Zinc even regulates cell production and turnover making it a great anti ageing ingredient.

When choosing one of these sunscreens you want to be sure they contain more than 15% zinc oxide. Any less will have less than a SPF 20. 20% zinc oxide will get you to approximately SPF 32, and this will block 97% - 98% of light.

Most importantly you have to reapply your sunscreen if you're going outside, or even just sitting next to a large window for a period of time. The number in your SPF indicates how many minutes of extra protection you get beyond how long it normally takes your skin to burn. So if you're heading out all day, take it with you and reapply!

Remember to get the back of your neck and ears as these areas are often forgotten and are where most melanomas are found. You only need 5-10 minutes of sun exposure 3 times a week to get enough vitamin D. And you can do this by exposing your arms, hands and feet.

Mineral Pro by O Cosmedics comes in tinted and clear containing 20% zinc oxide. Purchase here, or contact us at Heavenly Bliss for more information.

The importance of cleansing your skin

Why cleansing is the most important step in your skin care routine!

So.. you get to the end of the day and cleansing is the last thing you want to do, BUT proper cleansing is so important! If you're not nailing this first step then all the other steps (serum, eye cream, moisturiser & oils) are not able to work well and absorb deep into the skin the skin where all those amazing ingredients are needed.

Think of cleansing a little bit like washing your hair, you shampoo the first time to remove the dirt and oil, but the first wash doesn't usually create much of a lather and give a deep cleanse so you do a second wash to get down to your scalp and get a good lather. Its exactly the same for your face, (minus the shampoo!) add a PH balanced cleanser (meaning you don't need a toner, BONUS!) This leaves your skin feeling fresh but also has hydrating ingredients so your skin isn't left feeling dry.

Our top seller at Heavenly Bliss is Gentle Anti Oxidant Cleanser by O Cosmedics it’s a must have to complement any skin type and is gentle enough to use as an eye make up remover.Pretty much a non negotiable.

We are always here to answer any questions you may have in the regards to your skin! We love Skin it’s our passion!

NOW.. back to cleansing!

Night time cleansing, is to remove the days makeup, oil and pollution but it’s also to allow yourself a moment to be in the moment, close your eyes, breath in and imagine yourself in the salon wrapped up in a soft blanket having a facial massage and the days stresses are being cleansed away and down the drain, give yourself that moment because you deserve it.

LED

What is it? Does it hurt? Why should I have it done? Is it safe? These are some of the questions asked when we was first introduced LED at Heavenly Bliss.

What is it? Does it hurt? Why should I have it done? Is it safe?

These are some of the questions asked when we was first introduced LED at Heavenly Bliss.

LED is light therapy for the skin the uses different colours and wavelengths to help treat different skin conditions.

One of the things we found really fun about LED is that NASA originally developed it for growing plants in space and then later found it helped heal wounds faster, so then beauty therapists took in on board to treat many different conditions anywhere from aging to acne.

We use a machine called SSLED and this has 7 different coloured lights for us to use.

Our favorites are:

RED- red is primarily used for anti aging (red=stimulating), ultra dry skin, damaged skin, sagging ,and tired skin .Also great the day before an event to brighten and tighten skin with no down time!

BLUE- used for acne (blue=cooling for angry skins) prevents future breakouts and fights the bacteria that causes acne, also great for sensitive skin, rosacea and stretch marks. Blue light is great to add on to our corrective peel treatment to calm the skin after its had a work out of active ingredients.

To get the best out of your LED treatment whether your wanting to correct aging, oily/problematic skin, scarring, stressed & sluggish skin or you are just wanting a brighter, more even skin tone it is best to have weekly treatments including a thorough cleanse and serum (LED will help ingredients absorb much deeper) we include a hand, foot or scalp massage and finish the treatment with a hydrator, spf and a treatment foundation.

There is no down time with a LED treatment and you cannot feel anything (just like laying out on a warm day without the UVA and UVB rays) you will experience tighter and brighter skin after the first treatment and overall a healthier skin .

Not only will your skin benefit from LED it also releases feel good hormones like oxytocin, so a 20-30 minute session can leave you feeling happy, warm and in a more positive mood.

Our LED treatments come in packages 10 x LED = $500 for best results. This treatment is more of a mini facial.($50 per session)

You can also have single sessions $80 per session.

So why not upgrade your next facial treatment, after your pedicure, massage or add some relaxation to your monthly waxing appointment and give LED a go! You have nothing to lose.

Beauty is about enhancing what you have, so love the skin you’re in and let yourself shine through.

I don't know about you but I seriously cannot wait to get my lashes back on! It's so true what they say, once you start, it's a hard habit to break because eyes without lashes is like not having the frosting on a cake!

In the meantime, please do your natural lashes a favour and give them some TLC. Purely Lashes lash growth serum is going to provide this.

Four weeks ago I decided to test out the growth serum . This powerful serum speeds up the process to having longer, healthier and more nourished lashes! Usually best results are seen between 6-8 weeks with daily application . Even at 4 weeks of using this product I've noticed a difference. I can actually see my normally fine, short, stumpy lashes! Just add a bit of mascara and ‘voila!’ I mean they're not yet comparable to my lash extensions but definitely noticeably better than before.

The growth serum has been specifically designed to be eyelash extension-friendly and can even help improve lash retention. So when you’re back on the lash extension bandwagon, this product isn't going to go to waste because you can keep using the serum on your lashes .

I know that there's a lot of lash growth serums out there claiming they're the real deal and it gets a little confusing but you can trust Purely Lashes. They're Australian owned, vegan & cruelty-free and the products are packed with quality ingredients to ensure the best results! I promise that you won't regret trying it.

Kate's opinion on Cetaphil cleanser

I'm sure most beauty therapist's would pay good money to never hear a client say "I use Cetaphil" again.

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about the product. The first one is right there in the name, "gentle". While this product is technically safe to use on a sensitive skin, it can cause more problems as it disturbs the acid mantle or the pH of the skin, which usually sits around 4 - 5. But the cleanser is around 6.7, so it can be stripping, leading to acne and irritation as it creates a more alkaline environment.

Why does it say ‘recommend by dermatologists’ on the packaging? Dermatologists are great at identifying conditions and prescribing medications for them, but very rarely do they understand skincare and the part it plays to maintain a healthy skin. It's just not in their training. It's recommended by them because it doesn't contain fragrance or any other ingredients that will impact medications.

And Cetaphil is owned by Galderma Laboratories, one of the big pharmaceutical companies, but we won't enter that rabbit hole.

Now to the ingredients: Water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben.

Not one of them are particularly beneficial to the skin. The main one is water, which is fine but isn't helping anything. Three of them are parabens, cetyl alcohol can even leave a waxy residue on the skin stopping any other products from penetrating. These are all man made chemicals and can be considered as toxic.

Not sounding too great, right?

Not to worry, there are lots of cleansers out there that are suitable for a sensitive skin, AND have lots of beneficial active ingredients.

My top pick is the Gentle Antioxidant Cleanser by O Cosmedics.
It is safe to use as an eye makeup remover.
It has shea butter and aloe for skin hydration. Cinnamon and nutmeg which are powerful antioxidants as well as anti inflammatory, antibacterial bacterial and anti fungal.
It also has niacinamide aka B3 along with peptides and amino acids with there anti aging properties.
If you're already a cleansing pro, try the Corrective Cleanser & Peel with added exfoliating perks.
